(male announer) live from the bay area's news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> a police standoff happening now in berkeley we head out live to the short- staffed. the walnut creek police chief says. he does not have enough officers on the streets. right now, there are 72 staff officers. but seven of them are out for either injury or military leave. a full- staff would mean 80 officers. kron four's philippe djegal explains why city officials say, they're having a tough time filling positions. the walnut creek police department website currently shows two full-time police officer positions are available. offering a salary range between 76 and 93-thousand dollars a year. might sound good. but police chief joel bryden tells the city council that might not be competitive enough. councilman justin wedel says potential candidates are force. instead, choosing other bay area police departments because othey officer a more competitive salary and benefits package. now, that the department is under-staffed. wedel says some detectives have been reassigned to p

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> developing tonight at eight. police are investigating the death of a teenage girl. who suisun city yesterday. and found dead in fairfield this morning. a passerby discovered the girl's naked body in allan witt park at about 6-45 this morning. right now. her death is being investigated as a homicide. kron-4's charles clifford has been in fairfield all day. he joins us live tonight with the very latest. the girl, who's described as a teenager, was reported missing by a guardian thursday afternoon when she didn't come home from school. the suisun city police department spent thursday eveing and friday morning searching for her. around 6:45 friday morning, an officer with the fairfield police department discovered her body lying naked in a parking lot here at allan witt park. fairfield police blocked off a large section of the park and spent most of the day searching the area. they also contacted suisun city police who were able to identify girl as their as of friday evening the girls

announcer) live from the kron 4 news station, this is the kron 4 news. >> san francisco police are asking for the public's help in finding additional dan therrien, the man kron 4 first identified as a suspect in the disappearance. of kevin collins in 19-84. kron 4's grant lodes explains what we have learned so far. dan therrien - has a history of kidnapping and sexual assault involving children. in 1981, therrien was arrested in the fisherman's wharf area for kidnapping and lewd acts on a child. he was bailed out, then did not show up for his court date. that outstanding warrant, and pleaded giulty to felony lewd acts on a child. probation. wanted in canada for a 1973 incident. sexually assaulted 2 children. therrien was initially arrested and charged. fled canada. and 19-56 stewart. wayne jackson. contact them. if they ever of these names. san francisco's police chief greg suhr says the kevin haunted both him and his department. spoke with kron-4's terisa estacio about the latest at a news conference just hours ago, police revealed why therrien refered to by authorities as jackson - an a

. the manhunt for christopher dorner has stretched across all of southern california. kron 4's charles clifford shows us where the former police officer has been spotted. >>reporter:the hunt for christopher dorner began last sunday, when two people were found murdered in a parking garage here in irvine california. it's then believed that dorner feld 90 miles south towards san diego. on tuesday evening, witnesses described a man matching his description attempting to steal a yacht from this marina. the attempt apparently failed when the boat malfunctioned. a few days later, items belonging to dorner, including his lapd badge, were found here near lindbergh field. then... two days later, 90 miles to the north in corona, two la pd officers were involved in a shoot out with dorner around 1:30 in the morning. one of the officer was injured and dorner escaped. a short time later, two riverside police officers were ambushed while waiting in their car at a stop light. one of the officers was killed and the other seriously injured. and finally, on thursday afternoon, a truck believed to belong dorner wa

the detonation. this all happened after investigators say a man made a threat. kron4's fladeboe is live tonight at the scene. rob what do we know? the suspect had a gun, explosives and chemicals used to manufacture explosives inside this home on humboldt avenue, less than a block from santa clara high school. the front lawn, where some of those chemicals were blown up by the bomb squad, is now littered with blast- shielding sandbags as a hazardous materials team found still more suspicious materials inside the home as the search continued throughout the day. the contraband was discovered when a chp swat team served a search warrant based on threats allegedly made by everett basham against an elected public official. the chp, whose job it is to investigate such threats, would not divulge the nature of those threats, except to say the person threatened is a member of state government. >> it is unfortunate that he was sending in some many threats, it is unfortunate, a common theme. basham was armed with a loaded gun when he was arrested and his home has what looks like an elaborate security system
